Thanks for the comments - will try harder :blushing:

Regarding face cuts; 20 years ago I was taught to put in a large gob, 1/3 tree dia. Nowadays these college kids are telling me that a gob no larger than 1/4 tree diameter should be used. Yet you guys go for 45% gobs?

I want to get it right, but now I'm just :confused1:

It all depends what your felling in my experience, On species but mostly if your felling a stick or a whole tree. For a stick i would go for 40/50% but a whole tree no more than 25/30% really.

IMO you made that look like hard work

Sent from my Galaxy S2

LOL Rob - It felt like hard work!

As soon as I put my saw in I knew it wasn't sharp enough. I had all the builders on site watching, it was leaning back, the wind was gusting, my insurance premium was on my mind and my heart was in my mouth!

I'd taken a lot of weight off the back, but in retrospect I'd put myself under too much pressure.

I agree with rob mate, a warrior would not go into battle with a blunt sword or blunt arrows would he???

If my saw us not 100% when I'm felling then it gets a tickle, could of been worst but it come down and safe so that's the main thing,

Here is one of my hinges from another thread about 45% gob, side leaner so needed maximum holding wood on the hinge for it to fall right ImageUploadedByTapatalk1353405787.642042.jpg.9470030786ac6c25f5c34e7c1c045ecd.jpg
