Not that i want to break any forum rules here, but whilst working in the tractor yesterday, i noticed these trees, a lime and a horse chestnut, the chestnut isnt in a good state, and has had some crown raising done, im not against that and the cuts seem ok, but they seem to have used spikes!

Its the same story with the lime, with some impromptu fracture pruning by the looks of it too!

The chessie had a really bad case of bleeding canker, brown/red goo coming out of a couple of points in the bark.

i think the worst part of it is that currently there is no way of LA's taking action against poor standard work unless the tree is protected in any way , i had a guy come and work for me that would only climb using spikes - hence he did not climb much at all as the only trees i would let him climb were take downs and he was pretty shocking at them !!

I went to show some guys some brutalised spiked pops last year to gloat, when i got there they had been felled and removed. You can imagine how silly i felt:blushing:

problem is ,there is no independant inspection body with the la ,western power contractors undergo on site inspections on everything including standards of work ,if the work does not meet such standards then there are behinds that get kicked !

on the flip side of that steve i recently looked at a tree that an LA contractor or possibly the LA in house team had done and thought how well they had cleaned up in the midst of tking doen a large lime - in fact i was wrong and infact the tree was being retained - its since been looked at and felled !! i too was guilty of making a decision on what was going on when i did not have the full facts in front of me , fair enogh the tree was in a shocking state but at the end of the day who am i to say what is what . I am glad the tree came down in the end though
