can you put a pulley on a chain over the cliff then anchor the chain so you have a kind of steal rope guide and only the chain will rub on the rock.

probably over complicating this but you could probably find a way to attach/ balance a garden hose reel or similar big reel to the top of the wall and run the rope over that.

ok ok ill shut up

Tommy, normal double rope off a saver on a VT.

Like the saver on the work side of the wall idea Rich. May suspend the saver on a wire cable that runs over the wall? Problem is the cliff extends about 60 feet horizontally, so whatever is protecting my rope needs to be fairly mobile.

This will (hopefully) be a one-off, so I can't be spending loads on specialist rope access gear that will end up in my shed with my gravity boots, EZ-curl bar, vibrating ab-belt, Sinclair C5 etc....

Get a 90 degree bend of dranage pipe, put two feet of pipe in each end then put your rope through and as you decend over the edge sit the elbow over the corner. It wont move Mark:thumbup:

Edit, just seen the mobile bit Mark

Robert is looking favourite to earn a pint at the minute!

Stevie, the top garden has no trees and no vehicle access, so ground anchor it must be.

Mind you, I could get Plippy to stand in the middle of the lawn for a day.....:sneaky2::001_tongue:
