Well here ends the 20/21 season. Done a very full season, started 1st Sept all the way through till today’s finish. Here’s the before and after of this last job, and last pleacher to go down. It’s been a great one, couple of days over the winter the office roof leaked but overall all good. Videos will and have been put onto YouTube link in bio above. Echo 390ESX that’s the 4th season, all day everyday been brilliant.

Absolutely superb and what a great place for nature it will be when grown back with all those trees in it.

Some brilliant regrowth & rejuvenation along this small section , you can just see the base of the "tree" in the bottom corner of the before picture. Lovely and green, always good to see.

I've been impressed by the hedgelaying stuff on here, and it's been interesting to hear about as there is little evidence of it locally. The Borders has an abundance of flailed or overgrown hedges, or just rough fences.

 

This week I've been with a local company who have a young lad from Kent working as a groundie. He is very keen to learn hedgelaying, and said he's being taken on as an apprentice by Scotland's only commercial hedgelayer who is based in the Borders doing blacksmith work, but travels the country plying his 'laying' trade.

 

It's a shame there's not more of it done up here, to me a layed hedge looks so pleasing to the eye and must be the best solution for a boundary as well as nature. Look forward to seeing more on arbtalk.

Thanks for that link, interesting stuff. Looking at the map of contractors shows only 2 in Scotland and another couple in Northumberland (which is close to me in the Borders) but I'd hope there are more people doing it in the area. Would certainly like to see more layed hedges around. Since I heard Gimlet on arbtalk is looking to move to this area I'm hoping to see some of his work in the future.
