Best all round thinning saw

Recommended Posts

For less wear on you the new 346xpg with a 13" bar. If you want something a little bigger a 357xpg with a 15" bar they are a little slow with an 18" one.

I'd go with the 346 as i love them to bits also a semi chisel chain just as Beech is normally as hard as nails and takes the edge of a chain real quick.

I am sure I just said using the 660 for the heavy work (makes sense to me) and swapping to a 260 for the lighter ones for very valid reasons.

The 372/044 are 70cc saws which are capable of carrying a wide range of bar sizes, not overly heavy with good fuel economy.

With professional saws from 30-100cc, 70cc is about middle of the range in my book?

The 254 is a good saw in my opinion also. I am purely listing what worked for us. You wouldnt have been laughed out of our woods with your saw. Isnt it a 60cc? Only 10cc in it. Dont understand your reaction?

Not a reaction Doug, simply an opinion, Which is, after all what the asking questions, giving answers purpose of the forum is.

Of couse, as I :blushing: (and as it turns out you:001_smile:) don't read the posts (or read one thing, and then think something else) before submitting a reply, our opinions are often wildly different, but that what makes it interesting

357 with 15"full chisel for felling all day, awsome instant power and no worries using it all day on thinnings that sort of size.

From my experiance a 372 with 18" is to heavy great for cross cutting once winched out and the 346 just hasnt quite got the guts!

If your a stihl man go for the 361 or the newer version of it...362??
