business via websites?

Any of you peep's out have websites and if you do any idea if they actually lead to any phonecalls of the type - "hi, I saw your website can you come around and give me a quote?"

or is it yellow pages , local paper ads, and word of mouth that generates all the work?

i've scaled down drastically on my yellow pages ad this year, i even begrudge paying that small amount...if i get 5 calls from it i'll be surprised!

cor blimney guvenor... thought as much steve, whereas my dad and grandad picked up the yellow pages it seems people increasingly get straight on the net these days, but even your answer surprised me!

yeah...i found yellow pages was no good for me....and seemed to get a lot of time wasters....word of mouth is the best way...do a good job....priced corectly and make sure u clean up well (very important) and you will always have work....you will be surprised at the amount of people that will come and see you on a job and say "that looks nice...can you come and give me a quote..." i also think parish magazines are good, they are local and cheap.... but always remember word of mouth and recomendations:icon14:

My website works for me. I have a submission page on there that people can fill in and send off to my e-mail box. Had quite a bit of business from it.

I find that putting the village or town where you are based on your ad gets you a lot of very local work.

 

The website seems to be a secondary, they see your ad in the yellow or tompsons and go to your website to check you out, then contact you from there.

I've got a website but people just tend to go there for reference, as I list my web address in all my printed ads. Think I've only had 2 or 3 jobs that have come directly from the net, i.e. a google search throwing up my website.
