Dean you are on the start of a journey, you have been held down with stress and pressure for years with business and family, selling your beloved jeep was the first biggest step for YOU in years, now it has freed up some thinking space and that is amazing mate, when i first went to my therapist i told him the exact same, i felt i wasnt doing what i should be doing, i was here for bigger and better things. This is an awakening mate, its not a negative thing its a positive thing, you took a step in selling the jeep that you KNEW you should of done long before now but you didnt, now its done you are accepting there might be things in your life you can change, and you can and you are.

I have just texted my brother in law who is a therapist with your post, he says its very interesting and too big a question to be answered in a oner, but he said, ' ask him what he would say to a friend that felt the same way'

Thats what I wouldn't be able to answer Stevie, I dont understand what it means.

I dont think it is delusions of self grandure, more like I was put on this earth for a purpose and that purpose I haven't found yet, but the purpose is something that will have huge implications of a positive nature

take it from me, it will be a metaphor for something, and it will most probably stem from your childhood, it usually does mine did. what you need is to go and see an expert, no point guessing just let them tell you the answers mate:thumbup1:

You've served your country - you were British Army champion peashooter weren't you? - you've raised a family, made yourself an honourable living, are an acknowledged (on Arbtalk!) expert on machines but you want more; you feel unfulfilled.

My guess is that it's in your character to feel that way and that's no bad thing because it breeds ambition.

Perhaps you need to do a once-in-a-lifetime thing. Walk to a Pole, sail round a continent or just do something out of the ordinary.

To give you an idea of the kind of thing I mean... I'm an unimaginative git who'll probably never get round to doing anything dangerous but there's a 500 mile walk down the west coast of North Island New Zealand. I would just love for three guys to do that in, say, three weeks. Not SAS stuff but at 50 years old (now) I could do it and count it as a huge achievement.

Would that help?

Hmmmm... no I don't think delusions or anything like that Dean. I am far from a psychologist but am a qualified occupational therapist... (or used to be before this lark! :001_rolleyes:) and worked in psychiatry for four years. I don't think a psychologist or similar would help much in this context.

Personally I think you are realising that there is more to life than what you used to think and your purpose could be like all of us to realise our true selves i.e. we all come from the same place really. And that this will have huge implications (but within yourself).

Bit profound I suppose but why not... I feel the same way sometimes and there's a lot of other people out there that do as well. Not that that means everyone should sit around holding hands with flowers in their hair.... probably quite the opposite to that.

Either way I wouldn't worry about it too much.
