dont grease the slide on mine, but probably should.

 

one handed operation is much better, although still have to watch for really knotty lumps flying when they split, furthest i have had some lumps go so far is about 8 foot - brushed past my arm on way, still have a scar! went out with one hell of a bang

For rings that are too big to lift on to the table I keep an old saw with a ripping chain on. Turn ring on its side, cut through half way,insert wedge, tap and it falls apart. Saves a lot of struggle.
