Sure. And if you need to, you need to. But the vast majority of UK pickups are owned for prestige.

6'4" x 4'4" I just happen to know off the top of my head. 3 cube of logs with a 4' tall box.

4x4, van, 3500kg towing are the 3 main good things that meant I got a 110 hardtop. Add low depreciation, it almost looks sensible.

There are a few downsides to owning a defender though.....

Yeah I've had many a defender, and still wish I had one-sometimes...

It looks distinctly unhandy. Try and load a Hobbs into those lockers without getting it in your teeth or denting the ludicrously expensive coachwork. A van floor is two feet lower and you can get in it to manoeuvre said awkward load.

Again if there was a 4x4 van that towed 3500kg I'd buy it but pickup is the only affordable option. and I don;t own a hobbs ;)

I'm one day going to approach Volvo for a job, designing the world's best van. May I put you down as a reference?

Reminds me of the episode of the Simpsons where Homer designs a car and bankrupts his brother (Danny de Vito)

Except mine will be mint.

Good reference though. I'll rewatch that.

People expect a bit of theatre when I come round to price.

A decent pick-up sets the tone, sign written, a strong sensual man wearing some kind of tartan jacket, an aura that says ‘yes I will do your trees for lots of money, and yes I will squire your wife whilst you film it, but no touching or joining in’
