Hello All,

After a bit of advice. I agreed a price for a pre-owned excavator through a dealership, it had a couple of faults that were agreed to be put right ahead of them letting it go to me. I have been waiting 8 weeks so far with little in regards to updates, they're having an ongoing issue even though they replaced the required parts. Now we didn't agree a timescale as I foolishly thought as they're the dealer it would be turned around sharpish - am I being a bit unforgiving as I now want to re-negotiate the price as I have lost jobs and had to hire in a machine due to this delay and still don't have a date in mind. My other thought is, is this an omen that the machine might have wider problems and I should maybe just walk away (bearing in mind no deposit has been left), fyi I have negotiated a decent warranty in with the deal.

TIA

It sounds like it’s going to be a pup. And you’ve not put any money down? Thank your lucky stars and walk away.

What brand was it?

It’s a buyers market at the moment for both new and used.

Have you entered into a dialogue with them about this? Are they aware of the urgency and the ongoing costs you are incurring?

No as tbh I wanted the machine to be fixed properly without me breathing down there necks however I feel this may have now been taken advantage of. Regarding urgency - again I just feel this goes without saying if you’re buying machinery you want it as quickly as possible so it can earn you money.

It’s a Mecalac and it’s not chump change as you’re probably aware. The reason why I havnt already said oh forget it, is there isn’t many/any others for sale.

It's not a buyers market, thes beaten to hell diggers going through auctions for more money than what they are going new.. That's to a 🇷🇴 market.

Also thes a long waiting list on new machinery

So no buyers market.

Talking to two different local plant dealers of decent size, that's where the equipments going, there paying stupid money for it as well... Near on the same price new as after 3 years hire...

That's according to dealers, when I sold one of my hitachis  the track bed and hydraulics were fkd, dealer still offered 10k for a 4k houred machine, plated 2007.

Takeuchi tb 108, brought from a dealer for 5k ex speedy hire, ten years use, hours unknown  sold for 6.5k .

To be honest the used market is nuts because of exterior factors... People are paying stupid money for used machines. But that's where alot of machines are going.... Not africa and the middle East now.
