Climbing accident, Northwich, Cheshire

Just a heads up about a very poorly  Welsh Climber, who recently survived a 30' fall from a tree, who was then apparently immediately crushed, whilst lying on the ground by the same tree..

I don't know the poor guy, or anything beyond the meagre details that appear in the press, but something clearly went very wrong, with what appears to be a mature hung-up roadside Beech tree.

I'll try and find out more and post here.

He'll be out of action for a few months or maybe longer; there is a just-giving page set up for him .

Sad to here that. Hope he recovers quickly.

 

Pic from the GoFundMe, appears he was climbing this before it fell and crushed him.

 

I hope HSE doesnt get any funny ideas, as they often do after an accident.

Looks to have been anchored into a tree behind and stropped onto the beech. The beech gave way and took him with it, snapping his main line…..as far as can be seen on the video

Ah, jesus. That's shocking. Easily done too, I have a dead pine to remove from an adjacent anchor in the near future... this is very sobering news!

 

Hope he's back on his feet soon enough with no major obstacles.

Strikes me on a job like that with money not an issue, a mewp should have been used.

With trees like that you can’t piss about trying to save fences or roadside daffodils.
