Chain oil soaked leather gloves!

Without googling it first, my gut instinct tells me to scrub them with plain old vegetable oil first, then have a go with fairy liquid and warm water, rinse well, then dry them by wearing and using them, then treat them with a leather product.

I'd add, put a pair of latex gloves on, wear the dirty ones and give them a good scrub in sawdust first to get the worst of the surface oil off (could use cat litter too but remember to remove the cat sausages first else you'll get double complaints). Easiest to wear them to scrub off the oil. That might be enough, washing with soap will remove the natural oils I think so will need treating after - car leather seat cleaner perhaps?

That was kind of my thoughts, kick on with them as they are. A pair of leather gloves I had once used to get much too hard and stiff after they'd been soaked and then dried. I got pissed off in the end and deliberately coated them in chain oil. They were lovely and supple after that, with the added bonus of being a bit more waterproof. Too slick and slippery initially but that soon wore off.

Wipe it off with a cloth, put them aside for a day for it to dry out, then just use them.

I once left damp gloves to dry out in a wood store. When I next put them on they felt even wetter.

Thought at first the roof must be leaking - then the smell hit me - fox pee!

The trouble is the oil has soaked right through to drench the whole glove so not very pleasant at all from a wearing point of view. they are good working gloves so will wash in as hot water as I can stand with fairy liquid et cetera as advised
