I'll climb without rescue a lot of the time, but on the big jobs it just seems reckless. 

Seems to be a lot of "It wouldn't happen to me" mind frames here. Which is funny, because the guy who was meant to be my rescue, got crushed while climbing a windblown tree and broke his back a few years ago, he also had that mindframe. 

He got himself down from the tree, but he could've been stuck up there had he passed out. What then? Leave your work buddy unconscious and injured while you wait for the fire brigade? 🤣

 

We're doing a dangerous job guys, don't make it more dangerous by not looking after the guys you work with. It's just a job at the end of the day.

Had it been a one day job, I probably would have climbed it anyway. But we have 8 more days of work on the site so just did some smaller simple climbs. 

 

Wasn't coming to bitch and whine, was just curious about what other people's views on this was.

In fairness I'd probably crack on on day one and then perhaps hint that the other guy brings his kit for the next few days for peace of mind.

The only opinion that matters is that of the bloke who's stood on the job, looking at the tree. We can all say what we would and wouldn't do from the comfort of our armchairs. We've all done stuff that we probably shouldn't have, and got away with it. The only person who should be making the call is the bloke who's balls are on the line if it goes wrong.
