Labouring for firewood…

Is that a thing? 
 

It’s not something I’d thought about until now, but do arborists do anything like this… having a lifter, shifter, carrier, tea maker for the day in return for firewood?

Probably not, sorry. It'd be more trouble than it's worth from the arborists point of view. Considering team dynamics, established working methods, insurance etc.

 

It'd be a better bet to get yourself on the Tipsite on here I reckon.

and talk to your local traders.  If you have good access some may welcome a local place to drop logs for a  small donation (others may have a use for the logs but if you do not ask you will never know, just do not ask for free stuff, but I think you have that covered already).  The tipsite is more for traders working out of their area so deliveries may not be regular.  You can do a search on here as there are various threads about finding waste for firewood.

Whilst this is likely true for a lot of more modern firms, I occasionally contract to a couple of more "agricultural" firms who'd gladly take on a bit of basic labour in exchange for firewood.

 

Keep the barter system going, don't let the government get their cut 🤣

One argument @kevinjohnsonmbe had with the taxman was something like benefit in kind tax due on logs he got for early jobs. Come back and tells us a story, Kevin.

Thanks chap, yeah I’m definitely a payer😁 

 

I’m a first year stove owner and managed to get this lot sourced and stored away for next winter. I’d love to start working on 2026/27 now… plus I love cutting and chopping, the day after aches are the best!
