Cordless saw: Stihl MSA 300 vs. 200?

Someone watch this and report findings. I can't.

I only managed 5 seconds then skimmed though to the end

I think the gist of it was it crosscuts as fast as the ms261  they suggest at  the end to purchase it from there website as  a "suitable chainsaw  for pros".

But no info on durability spare parts costs & availibility, the extra  weight, the run time of 1 battery versus a full tank of petrol etc.

Im guessing if  cutting 50cc saw suited  diamater stuff   the battery won't last very long at all?

17 minutes run time....mentioned in comments

So for 1hrs cutting you would need  3 AP500s

So about £1000 worth of batteries which take 1hr approx each to re-charge so having  2 chargers  might be best .....if you could charge  on site.

17 minutes finger on the trigger, full revs, max power felling mode?

How about half power for snedding...

Or eco mode for... I dunno, what would you use eco mode for...? Mowing the lawn?

The extra kilo to be on-par or marginally quicker than a 50cc, as the video suggests, does seem a steep price to pay for an all-day saw, you'd definitely notice it by lunchtime.

Have to say, I'm tempted... as it does fit my shtick... but I'll probably wait for the next version.

I've made the point elsewhere on here before that I think the switching system on the Stihl MSA 220 tophandle and the MSA 300 backhandle is crass and dangerous. Might as well make it here too. One of the things I hated about it was the auto shutoff after x seconds.

Look at this video posted on an unrelated thread today.

tl;dr - It's a dodgy tree.

Skip to 21:00. Bad union, questionable wood, backlean, road, cars, relatively untrained man with his trigger finger on a tonne winch. Check the road. Nibbling, watching, communicating. Check the road. Nibbling, watching, communicating. Check the road.

Is that when you want your saw to turn itself off as a safety feature?

homer simpson is wearing a white shirt and a backpack

...uck no it isn't

Yes, I've told Stihl this. Forcefully.
