There’s two sides to that argument Mike. Companies were only too happy to take ready made trained workers rather than train up apprentices etc. I saw that with my own eyes with a welding fabrication firm we used to do vessel mobilisations and demobs. Prior to the open door police the teams  were made up of UK guys, once the gates opened the make up of the teams gradually reduced to a UK charge hand/foreman and a load of Eastern European guys all through an agency on zero hour contracts. That firm literally stopped training lads until after Brexit . We now see the teams going back to a 50/50 mix and a few apprenticeship guys in the mix. I do agree that in general they have a great work ethic but I guess the ones who had the gumption to make the move are gonna be in general the more talented driven types. I use Polish and Baltic states tradesmen up here often and sell quite a bit of milled stuff to a few of them. Generally speaking I’d say they are far more hands on savvy than the equivalent brit of the same age.
Im gonna be honest and say Mike if they have the same values, culture and respect for family, women and kids etc it goes a long way in regards integrating too, some might call that racist but I don’t really give a shit.

The dropping of apprenticeships seemed to happen globally at about the same time,I remember it getting phased out in New Zealand in the early 90s.I am not so sure it had a great deal to do with being able to source trained up bods into roles, they just happened to be available.

The trades just didnt seem attractive to a whole generation as well,in Poland University is free but you have to keep good grades or they will drop you.The mediocre students wash out and the more hands on types go into the trades.I have employed Nogs,Brits,Fins,Kiwis,Polish,Lativan,Lithuanian,Swedish,Scottish,Irish all over the years. As a  general rule the Richer the country the more entitled the employee seems to be.You can work out  what order of usefullness they are.

One thing you can say for the Baltic blokes, they are savvy as ****************k.Most of them have left Norway now unless they have kids in their teenage years, they calculate where they can make the most of their talents and off they go.When I first came to Norway there were tens of thousands of them here, now they are not easy to find unless they are the absolute trash that are unemployable back home.

Norway used to be an Eldorado for Eastern European tradesmen, now even the Romainains are leaving for Germany. The tax/cost of living and weak Kroner are seeing them off.The local kids have such an huge sense of entitlement that they are generally unemployable in smaller firms, they have to go into a big firm where everyone is just as useless.

I ask in all seriousness; and personally I always like reading views that conflict with my own.  But after the promise not to raise taxes and then Wednesday's £40 billion tax raising budget, is there anyone who actually supports them still?

I hope this doesn't simply become a silly name calling thread.  Maybe someone will raise some good points.

in reply to the thread title - Never liked them in the 1st place, like them even less now - if that’s possible🤔

I forget, was it David Cameron who gave his barbour a knighthood? Likewise the Conservative party... who JohnsonD voted for at the time... should hold their heads in shame...

Erm, I think we can safely say labour have long since outshined even the conservatives in the depths of depravity if the recent Jess Phillips saga is to be believed.

I am tending to stay out of this thread but will leave it as for Oldham she said it is up to the local council - consistent with other enquiries - and she isn't blocking any enquiry... just a Daily Telegraph spin which quotes to use... as far as I read it... however whichever side of party politics you are on, back to my comment, it is easy to find and pick fault with the politicians if you look.

Well, seeing that it involves the CPS and undoubtedly sir teflon and kier, plus the police forces and local councils.

Any inquiry should be done by the government for obvious reasons of full independence and accountability.

Barbour as in jacket 😂

What the hell has who I voted for god know how long ago or what Cameron did got to do with the decision in question. You are an absolute clown often as not on here SP, embarrassing yourself seems to be not in any way an issue for you.
