I wouldn’t say it’s support, more a recognition that it’s a reasonable measure.
Imagine being a young mum dropping the kids off at school in your Clio that you husband (let’s say he’s an office worker) has bought with his already taxed income (including VAT)
Behind you is Mrs Jones, in an all singing dancing Hilux invincible with her 2 kids in the back.
Her husband had written off the VAT and reduced his tax bill by buying it, plus the fuel is a tax write off

Seem fair?

That’s not really a common scenario Mick imo and even if it was who gives a shit eh 🤷‍♂️, like I say at around 30mpg you pay to drive them anyway. my mrs hates driving my Ranger as it happens. Like I said to stop some abusing the system they  have battered everyone.

Most of them I see are very clean, never been off road, vanity vans, or single occupant 'boss mans' vans as a perk.

What they need is a nice Passat.

I'm selling one, if anyone is interested.

Well, what's left of one.

I'd agree with that, 3 of you in the cab, the tax increases would add something like £5 to £10 onto their day rate (220 day or 150 day working year), which is nothing in the grand scheme of things. The tax paid there would of course be offset against tax on company profits.

Fag packet sums: £200 day hire for a double cab - something like that, and compared purchase cost, maintenance, tax, insurance, depreciation and so on. To justify owning a double cab you'd need something like 80 days use a year, 6 days a month -business use with 3+ employees in it-, else it is cheaper just to hire one in as and when - and they clean it for you!

Absolute garbage

You live in fantasy land

Surely people can just work a bit harder to afford to be able to tax their truck? The only reason I see where you need a double cab is to carry workers, if that is the case they should be factored into the cost of a job.

😞 work harder charge more 🤷‍♂️excellent, contradicting totally what you post elsewhere. Those making up this shite have zero business experience and are being chauffeured around in taxpayer funded 4x4 range rovers in the middle of London.

That pic sums up labour perfectly, drag down not build up. Hound those who want to get on, whilst doing nothing to help anyone.

Tax people with >£10m in assets more, you know, actual wealthy people, not just people who make good coin supporting their family

I’d suggest a trip to rural Aberdeenshire SP or for that matter any other rural community then you can open your eyes and see pick ups working for a living. That comment is pure and utter nonsense, you talk about your daily train commute to the office yet are spouting fantasy figures about DC pick ups and referring to them as “ vanity vans”, as for hire in as and when 🤷‍♂️😂 DC pick up hire shop on every corner where you live I take it. It’s classic envy politics with you, as long as someone else is getting shafted you are happy.

All they have done is close a loophole. It was inevitable that it would happen sooner or later. At least you've had three trucks before they changed it.

Hardly a sledgehammer! From now on if you want your VAT back and the purchase price put on your business you’ll have to buy a perfectly adequate king cab.

I have just ordered one in fact, coming in August.
I would have liked a double cab, but I understand the rationale.

 It seems fair tbh.

Here here Mick.

I have had a couple of these, perfectly adequate for me to carry around a Sea Kayak and lots of guns.

A double cab would have been crass.

Loophole for what mark 🤷‍♂️

Those who took the piss “ a minority imo” will just change to something else, those who need them will be ****************ed over 🤷‍♂️how does that promote growth. I would bet that the tax take they fantasise about getting will be a fraction of what they imagined. All that will happen is people will end up running either more or totally unsuitable vehicles or taking a massive tax hit. 👍👍. They say you get the government you deserve and by god this bunch of clowns are up there with the worst ever. Like I said to Mick its surprising the support for such BS from a what I presumed would be a predominantly self employed membership. 🤷‍♂️
