I got one of these today as I need a small saw, to stop me abusing my 020T on the ground.

18" full chisel .325" chain

53cc

2kW/2.7HP

£60

Seems adequate for my use. Any bigger stuff I will use the G327XP.

I got one 5 years ago. Worked fine for a winter, then died of unknown causes. Didn't shed a tear, didn’t try to fix it. Still got the body of it, might try and turn it into something exciting one day... but probably won't.

Just walked through Lidl to get a chocolate twist and a toffee yum yum for myself and a packet of 20% reduced cooked chicken breast slices for my two beautiful assistants, and checked the middle aisle for the hell of it.

100 euros for the saw this year! Outrageous. Better off putting that towards an unknown quantity 2nd hand saw on ebay. Roll the dice, see what you get.

I reckon the supermarket things are a 50-50 good-bad mix (see my post about chain sharpeners). Looking at the market, £80 / £60 / 100 euro saw is for domestic one-off job I think, probably works well for that.

Let us know what you think though

(mind, chinesium bar and chain, plus 'made in Germany' chain oil,  + delivery, £25? of consumables to stash in the shed after the year is up)

Ehh, I've got high-minded ideas of tiny wee quad bike or something for the kids, but if we are honest that's well outside my capabilities and likely always will be.

At the moment it's primary function is to prevent dust gathering on the shelf it occupies. Probably fill that role for another decade or so...

Unknown causes easy to narrow down. Likely carb related. Same could happen to any saw if you leave stale fuel on it ?

My slightly less cheap McCulloch, also from Lidl, has a carb issue preventing the primer from sucking fuel through.. sucking air from the carb. It doesnt have enough power to really be worth the time reassembling. I will eventually.
