Forestry employment issues

Recommended Posts

Let me clarify the thread title, I cut for one of the larger chestnut fencing suppliers in the UK and occasionally we need more people on the saws - I have placed ads for the company as I have been on here a while but on the last few occasions we have struggled to get response. I'm a realist and know the money is generally on domestic arb but where other than here and maybe Woodlots are they supposed to find cutters, any advice welcome cheers

UK Hand Cutters page on Facebook?

A lot of Scottish on there but the odd English as well I think.
Wish we had forestry like you have down south.

Surely the rates for a 8 hour day will be 200+. @Stere

You can do 200 per day but this is acreage rates and what you can do sq metre wise per day very much depends on the wood, and level of skill/enthusiasm of cutter. I will try the hand cutter fbook page thanks

'You can' invariably translates as 'only the best cutters flogging themselves'

Rates need to increase, both for the product and the production.

Otherwise decent gear is just going to keep going for biomass.
