Timberwolf TW160 cut out

Not TW owner but I have a GX670, on mine the oil switch shorts the ignition so you get no sparks, I think it would still spin on starter.

 

The fuse blowing sounds like it would kill everything, question then is what causes the fuse to blow? They do sometimes just go from age and corrosion, so change it once and if it goes again you probably have a chafed wire to the chassis somewhere causing a short to ground.

 

The other way is to start with a multimeter and see where the battery power is making it to,  trace step by step as there must be somewhere that should have power which doesn't.

Nice one Jase, I think I’ve worked out how to get in, 2 plasticky looking Philips heads as you say.

I’ve run out of time today but will attempt entry tomorrow.

Why is everything such a bastard to get to?

Have a look at the fuses but check you have power to them as well.

 

Take the ignition out and check it for function.

 

Check all the wires for breaks/ grounding out.Check for continuity. 

 

Your oil sensor is probably on the sump.

 

Might be easier to pop the engine off the machine so you can get at everything easier.

Joking aside, it was the fuse!

As said, a bit of a fiddle to get to, but swapped it out (you could see it was blown), and the machine fired up straight away.

 

@Jase hutch, thanks very much for the photos, made my life a lot easier.

 

I’ll warm the machine up for a couple of minutes tomorrow, then do the oil service.

 

Can’t see anything obviously shorting that caused the fuse to blow, so if it happens again I’ll have to look further.
