That's what I thought but what look initially like an ovipositor is actually a leg when you compare to other pics.  I think.

 

Personally I'd say @peds suggestion was better

I saw no ovipositor, so I started looking beewise instead. Blurry pics unfortunately, tricky to get any real detail. 

Handsome chap anyway.

I think it is just a regular Hornet but can anyone confirm?
