Help with saw.

Seriously they did say they are a bit green to big old saws, I'm not sure I'd recommend something as obscure with a manual oiler where parts are rocking horse poo.  Stihl 660, 880 or husky equivalents maybe.

@Hobbylogger - that is a very old, obsolete, potentially unsafe antique saw that should really be consigned to the scrap pile before it causes injury. 
As you appear a little inexperienced with this type of machinery I would be happy to help you out. I have an old (but fully functional, and far more modern than your current saw!) Stihl MS180 with a 14’’ bar (knife) that I would do a straight swap with you for.

This is in addition to the automatic oiler . Used with extra long bars when milling .

Hi all.

 

I've just spent some time cleaning the saw up, my neighbour has very helpfully given it a bit of a tune as he is very well versed in petrol engines and has shown me a BU-KO 65cc saw he brought off Amazon.  I must be honest and say that what attracted me to the older saw was it seemed alot better built than even the Stihl and Husquvana saws I had a brief look at.

 

Am I correct in thinking these numbers on the blade would be helpful in ordering a smaller bar?  Is it even possible? My neighbour says you can stick a aftermarket bar (he suggests Oregon) on a saw but I notice this bar is the same as the chainsaw?

 

I've some pallets I want to cut up later on but my neighbour said to be careful of nails? I know my old black and decker would go blunt when cutting the flats off the pallet blocks and obviously don't want to do the same to this saw? 

 

I must admit I'm very surprised it's generated so much Interest. I nearly didn't buy it as it looked old and obsolete but something drew me to it.

Never cut pallets with a chainsaw, buy a cheap reciprocating saw for that sort of punishment.

You'd be pretty safe running it on a 50:1 mix as modern oils are so much better than in the era that Dolmar was made. We used to have a real expert on oils on this forum but unfortunately we don't see him anymore 🙁
