How many knots do you know/use?

Recommended Posts

I do know quite a few knots, bends & hitches...

Use a few & keep learning new 1s like the Catalist hitch.

And owning a HHFX had to learn a new 1 which has no name in the info I got.

Marlinspike

sheet bend

Bowline

half hitch

timber hitch

Truckers hitch

VT

fisherman’s

alpine butterfly

I don’t use anything else really although at some point I’d like to learn a reliable ways to tie alternative to a timber hitch in rigging for the block installation but if it ain’t broke it’s hard to motivate to try! Any recommendations?

All depends on length of what’s holding the block and the girth of what you’re attaching it to.

I use a clove hitch as a default for my rigging ring (with a couple of half hitches to be sure)

I'll have forgotten other ones too. Like overhands for people who can't tie knots but need to send you something up. Easy to instruct someone to tie from afar. "Double it up. Tie a knot." Usually yields something that they can clip a saw to.

Similar vibe. Like how you can instruct someone to tie a rope to a tree just by walking round it until they run out of rope.
