Entry level firewood saw

I'm looking into buying my brother in law a saw. He's getting a log burner put in and i can keep him in firewood but i don't have the time to process it for him. 

 

Looking for something equivalent to the MS181, They're damn near £300 these days so are there any other options worth considering? Was hoping to pay around the £200 mark.

Gota 550 for £200 , can’t guarantee it though mate but it might last longer than a £200 mitox or something

No guarantees on used saws mate, especially yours 🤣

 

I'm hoping to part ex my ported 357xpg for a 550 with cash my way. Got a local lad that might go for it. Should pay for most of a new 181.

 

If that doesn't come off I'll get in touch 👍

I once picked up one of these when I needed a cheap ground saw asap and it never died … I passed it on to a customer for firewood and it’s still going apparently

A elderly customer of ours has one of them, reckons it’s the easiest starting saw he has ever had.

If your looking at a ms181 you might a good deal as they've been discontinued and replaced with the ms182. Some places might be getting rid of stock to replace with new. I used the new version this week and it was a little ripper. Pulled a 16" chain with no problem. Wouldn't do that with a 181

Anyone got any experience of these? Are they comfortable at bar legnth?

Haven't used their mains saws but I have a 9" grinder that is very powerful more so than any other grinder I've used so I suspect the electric motor side would be very good, I have got the 36v LXT battery saw (DUC305) that is between a Stihl MS 170 and the MS 180 and find it easier than a petrol saw for up to 8/10" firewood.
