I've broken several sets of the freedconns. It's mostly the plugs/wires/speakers that seen to break fastish, got probs a year or 2 out of them. Stopped using them and enjoying the peace up a tree not having constant chat. The freedconns lasted ok but was annoyed that the ones on my spare helmet for groundy etc broke as quickly as the ones on my climbing helmet, which seemed wierd as my ones are out getting weathered more as not switched on everyday.

Will probs try better quality ones at some point.

I started out with the freedoms. They had a good range, but broke quickly.

Went to the cheapest Sena, that didn't last very long then went to the 10r,  that has lasted well, Very discreet but doesnt link up with the Stihl pro Comms. I am hoping that I can go for a semi with mesh so I can link with both the older senna and the Stihl pro Comms.

I really need to get some of the Sthil mesh pro-com sets, for our safety/efficiency, and so that we can talk with other contractors using the same.

But I -really- don't want to have to open a 'Google account' (with still more of our 'shared' data -thanks all the same!), just so that I can install the Pro-com App.

Stihl tells me there's no alternative, so I'm reluctantly struggling on, with hand signals... 😬

Do any Pro-com users have a hack or suggestion here ?

-beyond get over myself!

Google don't really know how many accounts you have - create one for work, set up coms, sign out.

Having used cheap and cheerful disposable Chinese motorcycle intercoms which worked really well, including background noise suppression I have changed over to the Protos intercoms. Purely due to changing to Protos helmets. For what they cost the Chines ones were great, but for the climber they were prone to catching on branches and being pulled off/having their mounting plate broken. Also note the comment re modifying PPE if drilling helmet to mount securely. Having the whole thing located in the ear defender, with no arial seems a winner from the start.

The senna 10r is pretty slim line and causes little trouble in terms of getting caught on branches. Holds on well with just the stckyback mount tape included, never heard of anyone drilling helmet to mount, that would surely be a big no no!

Looking at the latest mesh senas nothing seems as slim line as the 10r. Had a previous model with a wheel and that was forever getting bumped and switching between intercom and phone. If they don't do a mesh version that is as slimline as the 10r I don't think I will pursue that avenue any further.
