Melrose Sevens Doug?

Sent her for tea while I browse and do crossword. Few errands like take bonus daughter and Jimmy to wedding,  walk dogs and then might sit in the pub. Tom at Santa Pod until late tomorrow unless there is a disaster! Live feed on YouTube but don't know when 2000hp Chev runs! Enjoy your day, however you spend it! Remember to make some memories!

Good Morning

Overnight rain and a bit overcast and cooler.

Local Beer Festival started yesterday. Used to be a real village thing where you'd have a catch up with all your mates. Now attracts scally-wags and riff-raff causing traffic chaos where people abandon cars on the narrow unlit road.

I'll get over it. Loads of H/Chestnut to cut/split/stack and a Good Mates partners 50th in the cricket pavilion. This side of the Beer Fest luckily.

Tomorrow could be a challenge and I'll be even later on parade.

Have a great weekend.

Try taking the seeds out and exposing them in varying amounts to the burnt pine cone [some heat and smoke residue]. Species like this are often triggered to emerge by heat and smoke.

Had a long weekend in Catania once over.  Went to Agrogenta, world heritage site,  amazing! Picked up a cone from one of the Pine trees and took it home to harvest the seeds. I split the seeds up and some I gave to Mother, a trained Horticulturist and I stratified some and tried several different protocols.  Non of mine took and one of hers did which she had just plonked in a seed tray! Grew this until it was two foot tall and we had a planting ceremony in their garden when I had my first post pandemic weekend with them. Chuffing deer ate the top out that night! Regrettably,  they moved and the tree stayed.

If you get there Charlie, grab us a cone or two please?

Morning Stubby, morning all.

Had some rain overnight here too, expecting more over the weekend.

Got an Apple tree prune to look at as a homer today, then probably just be out and about. Big event in town this weekend, which being a grumpy old man will be best avoided. Experience tells me it'll get frustrating from mid morning onwards, as the PA system starts to abuse my peace, then it'll be disco time when I'm in bed, the drunks will keep the police occupied no doubt and phone reception will die due to the number of people.

They tell us it's great for the community but I think they must mean the pubs as the locals barely tolerate it.

I'm of an age I can remember when it was a big community event!

Grump.

Have a good one folks.

Get a grip dougy you was young once 😁

I was young Les, but I remember what it once meant.

A world famous occasion held at the birthplace of rugby sevens. As a born and bred Melrosian I was on the hallowed Greenyards pitch at 5yr old, I've done the scoreboard, been a ball boy, litter picker, parking attendant and a player. I've helped Doddie Weir accomplish the feat of withdrawing 20 quid from a cash line and even witnessed David Campese recieving fellatio from a sports presenter in the clubrooms, she shall remain nameless.

Nowadays it's a corporate event, nothing but a scourge on Melrose, they even tore up the Greenyards pitch to install a plastic football pitch for profit!

Sorry Les, but I'm entrenched in grumpiness.

Enjoy spoons
