Rough cut mower

Looking to buy a small rough cut mower that will fit in a citeron dispatch van

Hayterette 18" would be a good shout. Quite old now but swingtip blades on a disc cut almost anything. No drive though.

As above but the Osprey. I use one for cutting a grassland track. Brilliant bit of kit though a bit of mechanical knowhow would be useful for maintenance as they are now 'vintage'.

Just what I'm looking out for.  Flail attachment on a camon rotavator base look good but seem a bit overpriced?

Better off with a hydrostatic Scag or Ferris.  Otherwise the BCS are a pain to shunt about. Not live drive so you have to pull the clutch and wait for the flail to run down before you can change direction. 
 

I’m in Sussex and have a 36” Scag flail I’d part with relatively cheap if you’re not too far. 
 

I have to say though, for grass you are always better off with a rotary than a flail.

Honda UM mowers are OK for long grass etc, but only 24 inch...not designed to take young trees

Plus one for this - has taken over from my ancient Hayter twenty one with 5hp b&s. Easier to start, more manoeuvrable and leaves a pretty good finish for a rough cut mower 👍

Id of thought that the gvx160 engine on that honda  might be abit small/underpowered for old tussocky paddock  or orchard grass?

 

 

 

 

I had a honda izy mower with the same engine that struggled with longer wet grass......

 

 

Im thinking you need something thats still  light enough to load on the back of a van but with a decently sized  H.P engine to still  cut old tussocks etc?

 

Hence why I thought the AS machine looked ok

 

As total machine weight is only 77kg but  has abit bigger 5hp/190cc Briggs & Stratton 4 Stroke 850 Series

 

Grillo is alot more powerful  with the gx390...
