Autine Splitting Axe/ Maul alternative

Hi folks

 

Just got my wood burning stove installed and looking for recomedations  on axe /splitting maul, just  seen a beautiful Autine axe at the highland show recently  but couldn't justify  £300  for an axe,    is there any hickory shafted  (sorry old school) for a budget of £100  you would recommend.

Fiskars X27 seems to be most people’s go to. Considerably cheaper than £300 too!

Likewise, I wouldn't be too hung up over a wooden handle - nice tool no doubt if that is your thing but the important part is the axe head

With a hickory shaft id want an overstrike protector some come with then or u can use some bike inner tube etc

My preferred splitting axe is like that Stubai and still on its original handle  25 years since my daughter's then boyfriend gave it to me for xmas. Overstrike protection is a whipping of sisal baler twine glued on and the cylinder of a bath foam container heat shrinked on with a hair dryer.

Just get fiskars ,any model you like,all those wooden handles for 300🤣 unless you Ilon Musk .

If you are just starting out then go Fiskars, they can't be beat for quality at that price point.
