Anyway I recall that 50 odd year ago, a local lad that had went to work on the building sites in London, and was home visiting family gave us a turn in the hay field, he turned up wearing a lovely and clearly expensive  3 piece suit.

When ribbed about his attire he said they bought these wonderfully tailored hard wearing suits for labouring in, plus one could then wear them to pubs and clubs, or even sleep rough in them! 

Then skip them and buy another.

...was a weekly affair among the road gangs resident in Kilburn and thereabouts though not necessarily with such classy outfits.

The guys got paid on Thursdays, went shopping for a suit and wore it for the week - at home, down the pub, on the roads.

The local drunks up and down the High Road - and there were a few! - were always in a suit!
