Had a site like that once, where I learnt the art of whinging, also where I learnt not to get snotty with a saw and push it away, took me ten minutes to get the bloody thing out from where it ended up

Quick photo of todays mixed bag. Same job as above but a lot cleaner on the other side. Ended up felling in all the outsiders with the wind we had today. No jack or wedges needed. 
 

Some douglas, larch and Sitka in there was good to cut something different with the douglas. 
 

Does anyone know why shelter belt plants are always so effing hard on chains? I've filed a full 24 inch chain in 2 days. Outside edge is like stone.

Could it be windblown sand from the adjacent cultivated land getting into the bark? We used to find cutting scots pine on sandy soil would blunt the chain.

Firewood fella says in a 9 hour shift on the saw I'm cutting 35 crates worth of hardwood. Some of it is pretty rough, cone split stuff as well. Messy but I'd say that's a no bad result.

If it's that bad I'd look seriously at some semi-chisel, cut is a bit slower but you'd spend a lot less time filing and the chains last longer.
