Thats ok but wouldn't the SDS Milwaukee Fuel ( that I have ) M18 CHD be better . The Hawg has a key chuck where as the SDS Max fitting would not slip . ?

No, any drill bit (such as an auger) that will be tranmitting a lot of torque comes with a hex shank.

The SDS is designed for percussive works, not so much torque. It also has a clutch in there that will slip easily, as anyone who has got a little trigger happy boring a large diameter hole through concrete will attest to.

The high torque drills come with very long brace bars to help you hang on!

@dumpergot a link to that? An impact wrench or driver produces jolts of torque, for loosening tight machine threads. Sustained torque is what you need for drilling (and installing coach screws/timberlocks! although the impact motion can be helpful in preventing cam-out here)

An SDS is totally the wrong drill for the job. You need a low geared high torque drill like oak framers use. I have the Milwaukee variant.

The Milwaukee M18FRAD2 is a 18V FUEL Super Hawg, 2-speed, 2nd generation right angle drill driver. Ideal for...

I am hardly going to go and spend £360 on a drill and another what £60-£70 on a battery and charger to drill 2 holes, it was just a one off project that I did and managed to do it , OK first SDS drill burnt out but it came to me free of charge as it was left under a bed in a rental property I helped clear out, new one I bought was a hokicoki or what every there called,, but I am a big believer in having the right tool for the job and if it was something I was doing regular I would not think twice about spending the money on the right kit fir the job,,
