Due to the surveyor being ill the survey wasn’t carried out until yesterday, it needs a rake of money spending on it. I’ve not got the full report yet but the surveyor advised me to look elsewhere. Nearly £600 short and no further forward. I’d rather that than buy a lemon mind.

Would it be better buying through a chandler or whatever the name is for a boat estate agent ?. Bit more peace of mind if it did go south in the depths kinda way?

Not really, a boat sold through a broker is classed as a private sale between the owner and buyer. Brokers just match the buyer and seller, and take the commission.

Are new boats many many times more expensive than second hand? I assumed they held their value fairly well (but am not pretending to know anything about that market).

When it comes to sailing boats they used to hold there value incredibly well. My dad was a keen sailor and he always said he never lost money on any of them. Mind you he would say that 😆

Consider it a lucky escape. £600 well spent.

A new boat, depending on spec, is house money. 20 year old boats made by good builders are making £50k plus.
