What sort of fungus is this??

Hi Stere,

I did a bit of a piss poor drawing for you.. There are basically, targets on both sides and close behind the tree too. There are other large trees [to the left and right] that i have shown in blue, that it could be guyed off to. There is also a large tree straight in front that it could be pulled from.

 

I would LOVE to take it down in one go, but what worries me, is that as the base has quite a lot of rot, once i attack it with the saw i would imagine there is no knowing what might happen?? can it twist or fall off the stump?? or am i worrying too much??

 

I have already climbed the thing and removed all but the top [as and when i could over the last two months], but the rot to the base seems to be progressing quite fast so i do not really want to climb it again. I certainly would not rig off the thing...

Birch is fairly grippy and usually follows a hinge nicely.

 

Just imagine that you where climbing it two months ago when there wasn't a sign of fungus and you will be ok  probably
