Oak sleepers

Hi all. 

Anybody got any good contacts for oak sleepers that don't have considerable amounts of sap wood/bark?

I need 40 at 2.4m x 100mm x 200mm.

What are you paying per Sleeper? Ive a bunch of Oak like this I could mill you for the right money.

I may be out of date Andy, but a few years ago you could get hold of oak sleepers for about £17 (imported from France I believe).  I suspect your pricing structure would result in a price nearer to £60 or £70.

French oak sleepers still available at £26 each, there is a guy near Chorley Lancashire with a yard full of them, it  makes me think at times how are they produced and transported for that sort of money,,

Ive milled a container of French Oak not to long ago. Its literally half the weight of Scottish Oak. Its also boring as hell.  Fine for Sleepers though. 

 

How they can sell them for that money baffles me as well. A quick dickt over with a router and a sander and its £150-200 easy.

I suspect you're right.  

 

Got a guy asking for a green mantle with a live edge on it. 1.8m x 8" x 4". £350 off the saw.

I take my hat off to you managing to charge that sort of price.  But do you tell them it is totally unseasoned?
