New ms462cm problem HELP!

Hi I’m at my wits end now I’m hoping someone can help.

 

I have an ms462cm I’ve just bought with a 25 inch stihl es bar and chain. I’ve used two tanks of fuel though it one to idle to bed in and within about 8 cuts though 20 inch ash the bar is to hot to touch and so is the oil tank  on the front and the plastic top casing by the handle.

The bar has already lost paint on the bottom middle section as you can see in the picture.

 

the chain is tensioned correctly as per the book.

ive checked the summer winter setting

ive checked the oil is flowing (turned up but not past the point you need to depress the switch)

I’ve  checked air filter I’m using good fuel and good 2 stroke oil.

and good bar oil.

 

I took the bar off and ran the chainsaw and again, the oil tank from cold got hot to touch within about 3 mins of running.

 

stihl support have been useless and cannot tell me if this is normal or not.

their service centres just want to charge money to look at it and cannot offer advice.

 

ive ran chainsaws before and I’ve never had this issue.

 

can anyone shed any light on if it’s normal because I can’t see being able to run the thing for more than 10 mins before it would blow up.

Are you forcing it through the cut? Where are you? Some kind, local soul might look at it.

I share your frustrations with Stihl customer service btw. They changed it from Camberley to Greece in the last year or so. The one time I called them, I talked for a good minute, detailing a problem I’d had and asking very specific questions about the fuel injector on a 500i.

Have you checked that the bar is oiling properly, check the oil hole in the bar make sure its not blocked, if you run the saw close to the ground on half throttle you should see a streak of oil after 10 seconds or so, it looks like the chain is too tight or the saw is not oiling

Sometimes ash can make that build up on the chain that you have there . Not saying this is the problem but it can't help . Also I would never let a new saw idle for a tankful " to bed it in " . This is more likely to glaze the bore . Just use it without abusing it and vary the speed a bit .

Yes even though as @Stubby says ash does tend to gum up the chain it looks to me  basically sharp but the chain is tight from lack of lubrication, hence friction and heating up.

Also with the 462 if you turn the saw upside down and look in to where you adjust the oil flow you will see a small roll pin which you can tap through with a punch and that let's your oil adjuster turn further which will increase oil to the bar but it still looks like a lack of chain oil

I guess they hope you have a local dealer to answer as many questions as possible, keeping anyone from actually ringing Greece

Hi yes I’ve double checked and ran with no bar to confirm oil is coming out and it’s pushing a lot of oil.

 

the manual says the setting should be fine for almost most users but I turned it up to max but without pushing that pin down.

Did you try it with the bar and no chain, just to make sure it's actually lining up with the oil hole on the bar ?
