Let's try and keep it a bit more constructive mate, it'd be nice if the AA felt inclined to respond further

Good morning all, and thanks for your comments here (including the 'fowl' one Joe :D...I was just knackered.)

I'm in Head Office today so I will bring the matter up there but again, and I do understand why you would say otherwise, the fact the article was published does not mean we categorically endorse it's contents.

We / I absolutely recognise the important role that the self-employed people play in the industry, often where the more specialists skills are held, e.g. technical rigging / crane work, and of course often with much associated experience, so please don't think otherwise.

Will come back again later ("bated breath I bet.")

Have a good day..

The association should of just kept quite  and said nothing and the guy should of just kept his opinions to his self all he’s done is cause upset and been disrespectful. There’s a lot of hard working ladies and gents about just trying to scrape a living. I don’t know what the guy was thinking 🤔 if he thought no one would take offence sure made my blood boil. AA got some apologising to do let they have let there selfs down I can’t believe something like that would be published.

Reminds me of something I’d read in the guardian from some witless journalist trying to be clever. Whilst he might have made a few valid points he also makes some ridiculous ones and the whole tone of it is a kick in the teeth to something like 30% of the industry.

I thought the aa seemed to be making good amends over the years getting rid of the ‘them and us’ reputation they always had, but the fact they published this shows the divide is still there more than ever. Hugely disappointing stuff from our ‘industry representatives’, and as for the author…

most of his current clients were likely freelancers at some stage in their careers!

Let's be honest; it's written that way on purpose. It's a hamfisted attempt at self promotion written by someone without any kind of writing skill. He'd have read somewhere that a good way to get noticed in your industry is to have a controversial view, and had a go himself without taking advice.

His target market are firms who want to be AA approved. He's hamfistedly tried to get their attention by pooping (sorry swear filter is set on children only mode) on the little guy.

He's really not worth bothering about, the only reason he used that 'tone of voice' and content is because of lack of understanding. The Arb association, however, acted disgracefully in allowing it to be published. It's one of the least professional pieces of sales copy I've ever read.

The AA can say what they like, but by hosting it on their website they are endorsing every word.

Thanks for your reply Paul, and for taking my tongue in cheek comment as it was intended.

As has been previously mentioned I read your attempt to distance the AA from Paul's article as a bit of a cop out. By publishing it you guys are accountable I'm afraid.

I've emailed Mr Elcoat bringing this thread to his attention and inviting him to reply. I'll await with baited breath...
