All of a sudden he's telling me about being in the motor trade, tax, vat, warranties, etc. Ya know all those things that have got nothing to do with sidelines.

Any sideline is taxable income ( off the top of my head I think the limit is a profit of over a grand). As such, all of the above are applicable.

 I think he was talking in a general, light hearted sense.

Your point on straying into taxable territory is a fair one though.

 

I remember when the pound was weak and Ifor Williams actually had stock of trailers, a member on here used to go and buy one in Wales, drive it back to France (where they are very very expensive) register it and sell it at a tidy profit on a regular basis.

 

I worked in garages in the eighties and many of the mechanics had a car on the go being sprayed and fixed up for selling on.

 

Keeping it cash is becoming difficult these days.

Piggy backed trailers at times.

Imported studwood, insulation when on offer at B&Q, paint even plaster to order.

Brexit put a total stop to all that.

agreed, the it comes to kit id much rather px it with a dealer for slightly less than have to deal with all the messers to make a little bit extra on it

Does that all depend on where you are at? As said, my mate just bought and sold a bike, the dealer offered him £3950 to px his old bike, he sold it privately for £5000 then had a better deal paying upfront from the dealer on the new bike.
