The self build thread

It's been a strong start on this thread, so I'll bring it down a notch, I made this dog kennel during the winter, big enough for our three dogs, with a bit of insulation and electricity for heat in the winter. Apart from those luxuries it's bet together with nails and took about zero skill!

Had to make ear slots in the door of course!

Here's my office in the garden. Reinforced concerete slab, Western Red Cedar cladding, Coroline roof, 2nd-hand double-glazed door, triple glazed ex demonstration windows. Super insulated, mains electrics, surround sound system, cabin bed. Took 3 weeks to do 95% of it, taken another 2 years not to finish the window trims. Love it, though, happy efficient place to work. Came in just under the £3k budget. Permitted development limit is 8 sq.m. this is 7.96m2!

That is a MASSIVE house - wowsers!!

Were building control happy with recycled type 1? I though it had to be virgin stone under a house (ridiculously!)?

Building inspector signed it all off along with the drainage, so can only assume so! Bit late now, it's under about 300mm of concrete 🤣

That’s a cathedral.

Thankyou 😆, it's supposed to be 'dutch barn' style , best way to get the most room upstairs as it's greenbelt and right next to a ww2 airfield so council weren't loving the ridge being raised too high

That's a huge project! Must say I'm impressed with the look of the wood effect cement board.

Some high quality work on show here already from just a few posts.

Great stuff!

Yes , if I may say so myself I quite like the look of it! Very easy to work with and should last well too

Built this garden office for someone a few years back. Was over an existing concrete pad from an old garage, they designed it and supplied plans. Did everything myself except for an Electrician certifying the work and making final connection. The roof has a sump with drainage contained in it which was planted as a "living roof".

And these were the steps that lead to the office, built in place of the former driveway. Stone for bottom step and sleepers held in place with rebar for the rest.

The carving we got at Longleat years ago when on holiday. Still have to put on the boards at the end and half of one side to break the windIMG20240201165041.thumb.jpg.9115c886ea6bd136d808a1eddf9bc5a6.jpg
