generator recommendations ....

I am sure most chainsaw carvers use an angle grinder as well as a chainsaw , for shaping and sanding , just wondering what generator any one uses or would recommend , I would only need to run one AG and would like a lightweight genny to take to and fro my woods ...thinking Honda or Hyundai ...

Honda suitcase inverter would be ideal and great quality, but they are pretty costly. 

 The Clarke(machine mart) versions may be worth a look, depending on the warranty. 

 

I've got a normal, open framed Pramac 3000watt  honda gx engine, they're only a couple of hundred quid used and very reliable.  I wouldn't want to carry it into a wood but its fine to move in a barrow or lift in and out of a van.  It's got decent A/V feet so I'm quite happy running it in the back of a pick up/van.

Why not a cordless angle grinder and some batteries?  Even the brushless models are cheap as chips these days

I have found that AG 's drain batteries faster than anything else ...

There's a recent video on youtube of a snack bar running off a Honda EU2i in New York. It has been running for 5 years, 20 hours a day and only oil changes, plugs, filters etc regularly.

 

Personally when I had to cut hoses, grind and drill things I used one of the 50quid  2t gensets based on a motorcycle reed valve engine. Only 900W but noisy and used fuel I had with me anyway. I still have it somewhere.

 

Nowadays I use a cordless grinder from Aldi, it copes with hoses and wire rope and cutting sheet metal quite regularly.

I'm a massive fan of cordless tools, especially Angle grinders, but for lots of  sanding- I'd guess the main use of the grinder for a carver- I'd definitely go for corded. 

The cost of a brushless grinder and a couple of batteries would definitely get a good used honda engined genny like mine👍

Little hondas engines are so good 👍 

Almost all of my grinding is done with a brushless, cordless makita these days, I couldn't be without it👍👍 large amounts of sanding is pretty much the only time I'd chose corded

Actually in 1998 I bought a cheap genset with one for the lads that lived in a caravan and they ran it night for a couple of years till it got stolen.

Yeah get a diesil genny and run it on red if you can get red these days I gave battery grinders a go and what a load of pants for chainsaw carving as sometimes the grinder is used a lot and the batterys were just running out on me ,you should be able to pick up a good used genny or have a look on Bidspotter they have the Ramco ex militry auction and you always see good gennys going cheap
