Commercial Plagiarism

Justseen an advert full page advert placend in our local paper today by a tree surgeon. He has ripped off line for line our mission statement which we have on our website and our associated company policies. If you are going to plagerise some elses work why not choose a company not based on your doorstep.?

 

Is there any action we can take? The local paper has forwarded me his flyer which is headed with our statement, so it seems he is using this statement in all of his stationary

Seems a bit tiresome... I think you could seek some legal advice about the steps you might take to curtail this kind of thing but suspect there is little you can really do.....I would take it as a compliment .

Why not pay him a visit and point out the obvious?

There are things to do with "copying" someone else I believe...

 

See if you can speak to a solicitor briefly to find out the legalities...

Then when you know, tell him you've consulted a solicitor and point out what he has to do to comply if he starts being "funny"...

This kind of thing really bugs the hell out of me, start the conversation polite but once hes got shirty its gloves off!

Mission statements tend to be quite similar - especially ones from similar companies.

Unless you've identified your company with slogans or registered trademarks then you're arguing the point that he has used the same English words as you have. I can understand that this gets right up your nose, but you might be fighting a lost cause.

Still gibbon, look on the bright side, remember that in life there are leaders and followers, they being the latter!

 

Does anyone know how much it costs to register a trade mark and or slogan?
