  1. Looking at some of the questions, this is a real option for some. Nikon Forestry 550 Laser Rangefinder 8371 FREE S&H 8371B, 8371. Nikon Forestry Range Finders, Nikon Range Finders.
  2. Paul give me a bell tomorrow if you are still struggling, will be available from early on....
  3. Looks good. However, RPA/Root Damage-Compaction
  4. Yep lee, your not showing your sevices off or promoting confidence in it being so negative......
  5. Thats not really true, the air spade is a far superior product in every aspect, safety being one of them, Infact the too products are worlds apart. The soil pick was developed with one nozzle style, to remove soil in the most efficent method (fastest) for utilities projects. The developers of the air spade spent a vast amount of money developing the nozzel range for a number of applications arboriculture being one of them. I started out with a soil pick/wand as they were known, after trials between this and the air spade when it was introduced we relegated the soil pick, IMO it has no place in the arb world. The ideal solution for our industry would be an air spade with a 165 cfm compressor, not the stated 185 cfm comp as stated in the manuals. This gives enough air flow to dislodge clay type soil but leaviong enough control to work in and around fine root structures.
  6. The air spade has a specially machined nozzel which changes the airflow in such a way that roots are not oblitarated.
  7. Think APD group are your best bet or direct from the states as we did.
  8. As an ex owner/user of both instruments the terravent should be IMO relegated to the cupboard or museum. Just to let you know a Czech company is having a pop at recreating a terravent style system that adds plenty of extras and takes away all the negatives, should be interesting !
  9. Also going to watch with keen eyes..... How about approved consultants scheme as well ?
  10. Not going to argue with you tony. However, i could rattle off a number of woodlands within my local area that have been well managed etc until a woodland tpo was placed they are now overgrown with laurel (no saplings anymore and affecting established trees) pathways overgrown and in many cases as they have to apply to do management works (extra costs) they are financially unviable and closed to the public as they are seen as hazard areas by worried land owners. What do the general public get now due to the LA placing a tpo, a closed off green mass that they cant enjoy
  11. just tried it outside, well impressed
  12. Anybody bought one of those Sony Sweep Panorama cameras, i got one today to try as we do panoramic shots all the time and hate stitching them together Will give it a try on site tomorrow and post the results.
  13. We radial trenched 16 H-Chestnuts that all had bleeding canker, mixed in some well rotted mulch etc. They had been given a year before being removed, 13 are still there and looking fantastic, really rejuvinated.
  14. The problem as i see it lies with the TO's, surely they are not doing there job efficently if not putting a clause in the TPO to exclude saplings etc, afterall most TPO's that are quashed is due to simple clerical mistakes by the TO's. Unfortunately TO's ofeten make mistakes when applying TPO's mostly due to pressure to apply them by third parties. A woodland TPO does absoultly no good for anybody apart from contributing to the rapid decline in the quality of britains woodlands.
  15. To be honest the TPO's we have sorted out have had other reasons as well, but i am aware of certain sites that have used this defence successfully. I will see if i can get any details and post, but as they are recent it may be a while till i can do this.
  16. If any body is interested i have http://www.airspade.co.uk & http://www.airspading.co.uk had them for quite a while when we used to offer the service.
  17. The SEO comments are wrong, you only need your company name once to generate a search on biz name basis, the seo should be pointed to key search words. Alot of theses so called SEO companies concentrate on fobbing you off with getting you top seach with comany name/web address, thats rubbish it has to be keywords. For you the likes of tree essex, arborist essex etc....... unfortunately you are not there when i did searches
  18. If the TPO is new, put in an objction as said recent case law makes the application of woodland TPO's indefensible as in theory anybody walking through/using the woodland will be breaking the order. There is a large list of woodland TPO's being wiped out due to this very reason.
  19. I have done the course and thought it was a waste of my time, it teaches the absolute basics, and doesnt give you any right to actually check a tree for bats...... Just go to Bat Conservation Trust and download the free leaflets and you will learn more FOR FREE. Plus if you dont attend the course and do come across bats on a job you can claim you had no idea, whereas if you do the course and distub a bat you are opening your self up to prosecution. Bat groups are generally a bit up themselves and weary of outsiders. I have done alot of bat work directly with our ecologist and attended the local bat group for quite a while, wasnt made to feel welcome, they met in a pub and didnt want you to have a beer I liked it to a local meeting of the taliban with there coded talk and death wish to anybody that could or may disturb, injure or kill a bat, to be honest dean as a tree surgeon you are the President Bush of the infidel to bat people Dean if you want any advice give me a bell
  20. Personally if it was my biz supplying these kits i would give an option without the box , maybe in a trauma backpack..... That would reduce the cost by roughly £100 making it very affordable to a bigger market.
  21. Talking to afriend at the HSE there is going to be a big crackdown on first aid availability for employes. As an employer i would not take any risks and provide what i can to the max. Look after good workers and they will look after you. When i used to work for others i left many a job because the boss had no regard for there staff, its quite visible that with all the regs etc there is still alot working like that.
  22. In the modern age its all about web presense, even the oldies google. This week we have had 17 enquiries for BS5837 reports all from google/yahoo direct searches. As already stated leaflet drops can really work if done weel and thought into areas etc, i have a few list that illustrate areas by disposable income etc, really good. If leaflets etc dont work why do all these big companies use them, afterall one big hit out of 500 will more than pay for itself
  23. ECU gone on the van this week and have a wisdom tooth infection, on the plus side having a few single malts + port and stinky cheese to kill the pain.....
