Woodland Mills own blades or Ripper 37?

So I need to decide whether to use their own blades (and the auto sharpener) or go with Ripper 37s, which I presume I'd need to send off to get sharpened? Opinions welcome.

Everyone seems to recommend the Ripper37s so thats what I have gone with. Cant say a lot about the WM that came with it as I wrecked it on one of the log stops within an hour!

About to order. Just need to decide whther to stock up on their blades plus sharpener/setter.

 

Where do you get the Rippers from and how much? You send them off for sharpening? Was it simple enough to adjust the tracking for the rippers?

The sharpener is a grindlux re-badged. (I think Logosol own them now?)

Someone was selling a cam grind Template to re-grind your Grindlux profile cam to suit the Rippers. I bought it and was happy with the profile. I just can’t be arsed sharpening and setting my own bands.

Got mine from Stephen Cull who came highly recommended from comments on here. Not had to adjust tracking yet. As for sharpening I have built my own little system using a chainsaw grinder. Just waiting on a profiled CBN wheel from Baltic abrasives which is made to fit the profile of the Ripper blades. Going to buy the WM setter and wish I had got it with the mill as it would have saved a load of delivery costs

The tracking is fiddly rather than difficult to set, the supplied manual is good and explains it well enough. 37s on a 130 worked really well for me.

Ripper blades are slightly better and were slightly cheaper so we've stuck with them. Stephen Cull is very good to deal with but I believe he's retired from sharpening.

Would be very interested in pics of your grinder setup. I’ve got the top end Oregon one, and would be happy to spend more with Baltic abrasives as their stuff is excellent.

The CBN wheel came today and I have popped some pictures up in an older thread
