Notch portawrap or Stein RC1000/ RC2000

Hi All,

What would you go for if buying rigging stuff for general everyday use and why?? Portawrap, or one of the Stein RC1000 type things, and what rope diameter?? Is it best to go for 16mm or will 13 or 14 be fine??

Get a Stein SMB 1000 or Roperunner P500.

Being inefficient isn’t cheap though.

Portawraps are ok for low grade stuff, where it’s not worth setting up a Bollard.

 

Cheap enough as a starter, not as good, but better than wraps around the trunk, which can work well, but is time consuming.

Yup and for tensioning speed lines etc.... have used porta wrap off front of tractor before today when no other anchor point.... they do have there uses

 

Proper rigging don't piss about get a stein rc3001 and above

Yes, i agree with everything you all say, If i have the money i would get one of them ones with a winch built in, as that would be very handy. I only need one for occasional use, as i would not be doing it every day like you lot, but if i started to do more, i could upgrade then i suppose.

 

Not sure what rope diameter though and i do fancy one of them sling things with the rings instead of a pulley as i could install it from the ground if needed, although i would imagine that installing it from the ground is VERY far from ideal.. Left to myself i would have both, but seen the price of pulleys...

You’re only talking about a oner more for a cheapo bollard John, no need to mortgage a GRCS just yet.

 

Quicker to set up, much easier to use, and don’t flop about like an electrocuted fish at the base of the tree.

2000 isn't a bad device, better than a porter wrap maybe not far off a fixed ratchet strapped bollard in terms of keeping slack out of big lumps...
16mm line would handle most trees with it.
