Not picking on you Colson:001_smile:

I'm just enjoying using this thread to vent my rage at the stihl oil cap.

I have observed that the mechanism seems to be a miniature of the petrol cap, which works fine. It seems that in miniature it can miss the bits its meant to bite on but still sit down in the next grooves, held on only by oil.

At best - you get your gloves oily when you reset the cap, to have another go.

I don't think we should become black belts in oil cap handling, it should just work easily. Perhaps there should be an NPTC in it? All the advice given is good and agreed I think, but I'm angry (With stihl) because it shouldn't be necessary.

Or in short - Its shite!

The new caps are ACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The oil cap has a small rectangle cut out of it, there is a corresponding rectangle cut out of the fill hole, just line up the two cut outs, push down firmly and turn, Simples!!!

I think these caps are a good indicator of intellect, I have had groundies who really struggled to do them and to be honest the weren't much good at owt!!

The ones who got the caps straight off were better all round!!!

I would like a new 66 but won't buy one till they come with new caps.

Have my saw on my lap now. Have spotted the rectangles and given it a go, and it appears to work. Did have to clear some oily sawdusty bits out of the way, find my glasses and use a torch in poor light.

I don't think I'm intelligent enough to be your groundie skyhuck:001_smile: and although I almost always agree with your thinking these days, we may have to agree to differ on this one mate. I think my hatred of the oil cap is too deep, I'm no longer open to reason:001_smile:

if you fill it to the top, then when you push down and twist the cap locks, but just not in its right position, dont fill it to the top and you will be fine, but yes i have had a few sticky right legs since the new cap came out ha ha

Didn't realise you liked the new caps that much Stevie!.....

Ah, so, it's not just me then with oily legs & fingers!!

One other annoyance is that on my 260 the oil cap fits in with the 'cut out' at 4 oclock but on the 441 the cap fits in the other direction, at 10 oclock. On my lads 230 the oil cap looks as though it isn't in place even when it is. Makes you keep checking it before you dare start the saw.
