Tracked Chipper Comparison.

But come to the conclusion its all about the money.  What's stopping you (or me) getting a 100hp chipper or larger (probably rated as 12"or something) and just not putting anything over 6" through it.  Then it'd be running at tickover and never struggling.  But for the money we'd spent we'd want to be chucking 12" stuff through it just because you could.

We run a 35hp Greenmech and a 73hp Schliesing.

The GM is obviously not a patch on the bigger chipper, but the GM is great on some jobs, preferable even.

 

We took down some Douglas on Friday, everything was either under 6” or trunkwood that wouldn’t have gone through the bigger chipper anyway.

 

Stress control kicking in all day but didn’t cost us any real time on the job.

The Evo being restricted to 25hp from 35hp hasn't created any productivity issues but I'm still curious about getting the engine derestricted one day.
It was built to handle 45hp so I don't anticipate it falling apart.

I don't know about the Greenmech but I've been reliably informed that to de restrict the TW 230 25hp all you need to do is change the pulleys and the stress control unit......I guess it would void the warranty or I'd be buying a 25hp 230 vtr tomorrow[emoji23][emoji23] although they can't have the auto reverse fitted that my older 230 vtr has...[emoji22][emoji22]

I am informed the V1505 is restricted at the pump.

I imagine the no-stress rev limits would require adjusting afterwards.

I did look at the TP175, it has a genuine 25hp

I thought the v1505 was built to produce 26hp (specifically for this emissions regulated market) and if you wanted more you bought the turbo version?

This makes sense, a mechanical fuel injection pump will have a maximum fuel stop screw. Adjust that up and there's more fuel so more power, until either the pump capacity is reached or all the air is used and then it will smoke.  Given that it used to be 35hp there will be enough air.

 

I worked for Lucas CAV as a sponsored student, there were definitely tractors where the higher hp more expensive model just had a few turns different on the maximum fuel stop and a different badge.

 

Edit, don't see the no stress would need adjustment, the revs would still be set the same on the governor so when it runs out of power same rev drop.

One of my entourage is a partner in the local large machine repair and engineering shop.

They will do the job but sensibly recommend waiting until the warranty had expired.

I guess the new generation of engines such as the 50hp fitted to the GM Evo205, common rail, turbo and assorted Mc****************ery are closer to car engines but still nowhere near as powerfull for their displacement.

The 280 is a bigger machine, wider tracks. Much wider than the 230.
