Got a mate looking to buy a saw for home use. Doesn't want to spend more than £100. I initially thought a second hand ms181, but their going for almost new price on ebay 🤣

Anyone had a positive experience with cheap saws?

Mate got one off wish or some site.
Chain brake keeps snapping on.
Doorstop now.

I've got a little used Makita EA3501/14in which is now sitting doing nothing. Not the usual clamshell rubbish but well built and parts available should you ever need them. You'll find all the details on F R Jones website among others. Only ever been run on Aspen - yours for £100.

What's it for? How about electric? Screwfix do a Titan one for about the price of a decent bar. Might do if it's not doing much work.

I doubt it will get much asked of it, probably spend most of its life with a blunt "blade".

I think electric is a good shout, but he might want one that makes the manly vroom noise.

Nice one, I'll mention it to him.

A neighbour of mine bought a lidl electric saw, I sharpen it for him from time to time. I'd consider it a pos but it has a couple of seasons of domestic firewood cut now, some of it fairly twisty, knotty cypress.

Pathetically tame and gutless but it cuts wood, just don't file down the rakers too much!
