I know of a bloke ( tree surgeon actually but I don't know him well )  who built his house inside a barn . Lived in it for several years ( maybe 10 ? )  and eventually pulled the barn down and shazam ! ....

Just keep it a barn and live in the hayloft - more room for projects.

His house would still be illegal until I believe 12 years after barn came down. You can't hide a building. Has to be as is. That's why earth ships work well. Hidden all the time.

The planning laws need to be overhauled to favour self builders and small, sustainable developments. At the moment the government is in the pocket of the big developers like Persimmon.

Yep. Crazy planning laws indeed. Sustainable small scale development should Always be allowed.

"Mock" was the operative word there! That fellow really took the piss. I'm thinking anyone who has money to burn on a stunt like that isn't in dire need of a home. Most unofficial dwellings are completely inoffensive, if not invisable, by the nature of the game.

at that time there was no where near the same amount of rental property as there is today, but due to some people having the balls to take on buy to let mortgages and then having the forsight to get another then another and that then puts them in a very good buying position of just being able to buy one property after another, My argument has all ways been the same WHY pay rent and line some one elses pocket when for not much more outlay every month you can pay a mortgage and own the property yourself one day ??, i have never understood that one,

I know people who are paying more in rent than they would be on a mortgage and lets face it with interest rates at a all time low its never been a better time to buy a property but then again most of the younger people cant get a mortgage but then again all the bloody houses they are building around me are sold before the paint has dried,  

Trouble is these day's apart from so many are only one pay packet away from "Street Life"! So many can't scrape enough together to pay bills let alone a deposit! and Many that rent with these dubious agents/landlords have there deposit stolen under some false guise.

Know a few that have it stolen yet place and everything was spot on.

He is still in it now as far as I know .
