Probably worth clearing the hole in the small end if you can and then getting the diameter of that hole, the diameter of the gudgeon pin and the distance between the inner flats of the piston where the bush fits in to and get one made and then push it in to the small end hole with a bit of bearing lock fluid - you could possibly use heat and cold but go easy on heating the con rod too much.

It may last well and worth it compared to the costs you mention.

I used to have a Renault Gordini  when I was an apprentice  back in 1807 .  I turned up some small end bushes for it from fozzy bronze . Worked a treat !  👍

Spoken to my local dealer and they are saying you need to buy the full new crank and con rod its £280 then £90 for the piston and £30 for the seals and other bits a new machine is £460... 

The only bit that failed was the top end bearing and the piston was slightley damaged. Looks like i will hafto keep an eye out on ebay..

Don't bother putting parts in it, the cost as you say is pretty horrendous, especially as Stihl do a whole replacement engine for them and at fraction of the cost.   I have one in at the moment which has done exactly the same thing as yours, a very badly seized small end.

Are you just putting a new engine in? if so do L&S sell them? Out of all the tools i use the blower was the las thing i though would go...lol

Haven't seen the short engines on L&S.  I was surprised to see it listed in the Stihl parts list, but I need to double check it was a BR600. I'll do this when I go into work tomorrow.  The price was a no brainer though compared to putting parts in it.   

 

Some say this fault is down to the nozzle waring and it putting excessive load on the engine making it run extra hot.  The one I have in the workshop has hardly been used.  It was seized absolutely solid and only because of the small end.

Never had this issue before but I can't help but think.... Why faff about putting a new engine in a tool that only costs 400.00 and used every day? 

 

When mine started dicking about I just bought a new one and threw the old on a shelf

Stihl and replacement parts prices are something else! Once upon a time, I broke the casting on my Kombi pole saw attachment. 

" Allegedly", only me and a bloke in Scotland had ever done so. I was quoted something like £175 for the casting only, by the parts department.

Over in the Sales dept, I purchased a whole new attachment, ie shaft, casting, bar and chain, for: 

 

 

£160.00 You couldn't make it up.
