I’ve been working in the industry for almost 10 years now and I want to start thinking about coming away from the tools.

Does anyone have any advice to what is needed to become an assessor, and what courses and qualification one would require?

Need to speak to your local collage and ask. My mrs does this in the catering industry

You need to contact City and Guilds and see if there is a need for assessors and request to be technically verified. If a candidate is a 1 or a 2 out of 5, you need to be able to produce a 5 in a number of different areas. Once you have done that you need to undertake an assessor course. I did mine down in Somerset with Rob Blake and Nick Obern. Its brilliant.

The verification is to see that you have the skills to do what you want to assess.  There was a short written test as part of the assessor qualification but nothing difficult

The industry is crying out for good trainers and assessors - some of us are getting a bit long in the tooth now. Whereabouts are you based? We are always on the lookout for NPTC Assessors, there is plenty of work out there...

Haha. You must be getting on a bit. I remember when you assessed me on one of my units in about 2001 - 2002 ish at Sparsholt.
