Leather Jerkin. Genuine British Army. Military Size - 180/104.

I got one years ago for when I was feeding the chipper, it's very heavy so I hardly wear it at all now.

The old boy who taught me hedge laying when I was 16 used to wear an old black leather jacket, the sort of thing you'd find in a charity shop. Effective. Also hot and sweaty. As are waxed jackets.

I don't wear any thorn protection beyond leather gloves. Don't seem to get spiked too bad except on my forearms when it's mild and I'm in my shirtsleeves. Maybe I'm doing it wrong....

I actually got 2 of those, I cannot fine a use for them but still wear them, kinda like a male corset.

My excuse is they keep the phone from falling out of my shirt pocket, without being too warm.

BTW

Can anybody inform me what their role was in the Army?

Blacksmithing was my only notion, but then the plastic zip would be liable to melt.

Some ex army stuff can be very handy. I've got a NATO body bag (new, not used...). Makes a great drag bag for deer stalking. Best to remove the sticker first though that says "human remains"...
